Lil Jon says ‘There’s no wrong way’ to meditate as he releases new guided meditation album

Lil Jon’s new music is here, but it’s not what anyone would expect. The Grammy winner has released his new guided meditation album, Clear Abundance: Affirmations for Personal Growth, in commemoration of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Clear abundance is his second meditation album. After Usher’s Super Bowl performance in early February, Lil Jon came out Total meditationon which he collaborated with producer and bestselling author Kabir Sehgal.

Clear abundance contains nine guided meditations to help listeners through different aspects of life. There are meditations for positivity, health, love and abundance. If a listener isn’t sure what they need, there’s a track to manifest something.

At 52, Lil Jon embraces the peace of a quieter life through meditation. To celebrate the album’s release earlier this month, Lil Jon teamed up with Natural Vitality to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness.

Blavity spoke with Lil Jon about the practice that influenced his life and career and why he wants everyone to know there is no wrong way to meditate.

You’re teaming up with Natural Vitality to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month. How do you think supplements help in someone’s mental health journey?

LJ: Taking supplements for your mental health is about taking care of yourself. Natural Vitality supplements help you relax and unwind, which can help support a balanced mood, relieve tension and calm your mind, especially before bed. It’s like giving your brain the boost to handle whatever life throws at you!

How did you first become interested in meditation and mindfulness practices?

little Jon: When I turned 50 and started looking at my personal life and stufft…i started meditating daily and saying affirmations to get me back into a positive mindset. It helped me to ground myself and guide me through that period of stress. I started every day with a cup of ginger tea, went outside, sat in my pyramid and meditated, saying my affirmations.

How have meditation and affirmations helped you grow as a person, artist and entrepreneur?

LJ: I have already achieved a lot in my career, but I really felt like there was something else was also intended to do. When I thought about it after recording these projects, I realized that maybe I was meant to help people by sharing my story and spreading knowledge and positivity in the world, and that is precisely what these projects have done for people!

What was your creative process like in making this album, compared to your typical music projects?

LJ: Kabir Sehgal and I talked about what we wanted to do. We started putting the scripts together, and we got together in my home studio in Atlanta and recorded six or seven albums in just a few days. These meditation albums are an experience that I hope fans will take away from to help relieve some of their stress, anxiety, and sadness.

How do you think meditation or silent mindfulness is helpful for people?

LJ: Meditation does astonishing! It’s about getting your mind right. When you take the time to meditate – even for just one minute – you give yourself a break. It’s like pressing pause on all the outside noise. Meditation can reduce stress, improve your mood and make you more focused. If you are mindful, you are present in the moment and at peace.

What advice can you give someone who is new to meditation and in that space of learning to make it work for them?

LJ: If you are new to meditation and trying to make it work for you, just now know that there is no wrong way to do it. Meditation is about tuning in to yourself and finding your inner peace. Find a comfortable place, clear your head and try to let go of the noise. Start with your breathing. Don’t worry about doing it ‘right’. There is no wrong way to meditate; it’s your time, your space. Be present in that one moment.
