Protection for a good cause

With its Black Dog range of PPE, Safety Mate has surpassed $1 million in donations to the Black Dog Institute (BDI), a major mental health research organisation.

Evidence suggests that mental illness is now the leading cause of absenteeism and long-term disability in Australia, and that the construction industry has long struggled with high rates of mental health problems.

“Because we understand the connection between mental health and productivity in the workplace, we have entered into a meaningful partnership with BDI, a nonprofit research institute whose mission is to create better mental health for everyone,” said Safety Mate Director Clint Tee to Safe to Work.

With every purchase of a product from the Black Dog range, Safety Mate donates a portion to BDI.

The range
The Black Dog Cut D safety glove is a super lightweight glove at cut level D that provides consistent and high-quality cut resistance. The glove is made of a nitrile coating and is durable, breathable and compatible with touchscreens. The product has a certified Made In Green label from Oeko-Tex.

This label stands for environmentally friendly production, social responsibility, safe working environments and materials that are free of harmful substances. It guarantees consumers that their products come from facilities that prioritize environmental and ethical standards.

The Black Dog Cut F glove offers maximum protection at cut level F and flexible impact protection, making it suitable for a wide range of tough jobs. It also has similar features to the Black Dog Cut D, including the Made In Green label.

The Skytec Black Dog 3030V is a P2 rated respirator, meaning it can protect workers from silicosis, harmful welding fumes and similar inhalable hazards.

“The Skytec 3030V offers a full foam face seal, which provides unparalleled comfort and fit, making extended wear surprisingly comfortable,” said Tee.

“With adjustable head straps and the full foam face seal, the Skytec 3030V adapts to any face shape, ensuring maximum protection and a perfect fit for everyone.”

The Stream Evo Black Dog safety glasses are high-quality glasses with anti-scratch and anti-fog protection. The goggles feature a number of useful safety features, such as a UV400 rating, side protection, slim temples for comfort when worn with earmuffs, an adjustable non-slip nose bridge and TempFLEX temple tips for a comfortable and secure fit.

The glasses are also 100 percent metal-free for an extra layer of safety.

“Our ‘Black Dog’ product range is more than just personal protection – it’s a symbol of support and awareness for mental health,” said Tee.

“This initiative will ensure that with every purchase of ‘Black Dog’ products, donations will be funneled directly to the Institute, strengthening efforts in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness.”
