Once again, unidentified gunmen attack Ebonyi community, killing three

May 28, (THEWILL) – Gunmen operating on motorcycles have attacked and killed three persons in Akpoha community, Afikpo Local Government Area of ​​Ebonyi State

The gunmen invaded the community around 8 p.m. on Saturday, firing sporadically.

Many residents of the community suffered varying degrees of injuries during the attack.


The dead included a member of the state’s defunct Ebubeagu Security Network, which was transformed into Neighborhood Security Watch (NSW), a female trader and a man staying close to the state’s local vigilante member.

A resident of the area, Uche Donatus, said there are about ten bullets in the body of the slain Neighborhood Security Watch.

He noted that bullets from the sporadic shootings by the gunmen hit the roof of his house, forcing him to flee for his life.

“Our community was attacked on Saturday evening. There are three people lying dead as I talk to you.

“One of the three bodies on the ground is a member of the Ebubeagu Security Network. He has a maximum of 10 bullets in his body.

The gunmen came with two motorcycles. As they were leaving, one of the motorcycles refused to move any further and they continued to shoot heavily until it started and they left.

“These are the three persons who were killed following a serious shooting at AkpohaIgbo by armed men who came to carry out this mayhem with two motorcycles.

“Their names are Emmanuel Nwacha, Egwu Nicholas Nwacha and INYA Blessing Orieona. Murders in Akpoha are common and nothing has been done to stop it. We are in trouble,” he said.

One Mr. Uche, the Youth President of Akpoha Community, said Emmanuel Nwacha is the leader of the Neighborhood Security Watch in the area and the Chief Security Office of the company that is overseeing the construction of a new bridge in the community by the Federal Government takes care.

He revealed that many bullets were taken by police officers in the community who evacuated the bodies of the deceased.

Coordinator of the Akpoha Development Centre, Kenneth Orji Obasi, who confirmed the incident, said the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the mortuary.

He noted that he received a call around 8pm on Saturday that armed men were firing heavily at Akpoha junction and he dispatched some members of the Neighborhood Security Watch to the scene.

“When I arrived at the scene, I saw three people lying dead on the ground. I took their bodies to the mortuary while the incident was reported to the police,” Obasi said.

The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said he was yet to receive a report on the incident.
