Manipur: Joint security forces seize weapons cache, one arrested

Imphal: Acting on intelligence reports pointing to hidden weapons in vulnerable areas, a combined force of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted successful search operations in two districts.

These operations resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of a significant stockpile of weapons, ammunition and explosives.

In Bishnupur district, a joint team comprising commandos of district police and 16 Kumaon Regiment launched a search operation at Kwakta.

During a routine search and control procedure, they arrested Laishram Rabi Singh (33), a resident of Moidangpok village.

Authorities found in his possession an M-16 rifle marked as US government property, loaded with a magazine containing eight live rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and a 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine containing two live rounds .

In a separate operation conducted in Yairipok village of Thoubal district, the Indian Army, in collaboration with Assam Rifles, seized a 9mm carbine machine gun, a 9mm pistol, a double-barreled shotgun, six hand grenades, ammunition and other military paraphernalia seizure.

The arrested person and all recovered weapons and explosives have been handed over to the relevant police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings.
