This tiny octopus can kill a human in 20 minutes

We often don’t take small creatures seriously, but we don’t realize that these lively animals can easily kill us. Some creatures are so poisonous that they can kill you in a few minutes. Predicting a creature’s toxicity level is very difficult, especially for underwater animals. One such underwater animal looks beautiful and is small in size, but contains poison more dangerous than cyanide.

If you think snakes have more dangerous venom, then you are wrong. This creature is very poisonous and can kill 26 people. We’ve all heard of octopuses, but today we’re talking about the blue-ringed octopus, which is so poisonous that it can become a healthy human in 20 minutes.

A video of this underwater creature recently went viral on social media. The video was posted to X (formerly Twitter) by a user named Lewis Pugh Foundation. The user wrote: ‘Don’t let its size fool you: the blue-ringed octopus carries enough venom to kill a human in just 20 minutes! Although the venom is mainly used for defense, it is also useful for taking down small prey such as crabs and shrimp.”

Symbiotic bacteria present in the salivary glands of blue-ringed octopus produce tetrodotoxin (TTX), which is often neurotoxic. Tetrodotoxin affects the nervous system of the human body and blocks the transmission of nerve impulses. The muscles stop the contraction process and therefore become fatal to a human. According to several reports, TTX is 1000 times more toxic than cyanide. TTX can be found in a variety of animals, including fish, amphibians and crustaceans. Puffer fish are one such creature that carries this deadly poison.

TTX rapidly affects the human body by quickly weakening and paralyzing muscles. The victim experiences side effects such as vomiting and dizziness. Over time, the victim loses the ability to move the body. The diaphragm becomes paralyzed, resulting in respiratory failure. This procedure takes place within minutes of becoming infected.
