Retired comes out of retirement to answer the club’s call

The Offaly flag flies proudly

A 67-year-old put on his football boots for the first time in twenty years to ensure that his club could play a match last weekend.

Seanie ‘The King’ Monaghan lined into defense for Offaly club Shamrocks in their Division 4 Hurling League match away to Seir Kieran. Seanie was a former doubles player at St Carthage’s and later Shamrocks, which was formed in 1994 following the merger of St Carthage’s and Mucklagh. He could not save his beloved club from a heavy defeat, but his dedication to the cause was well recognised.

“Now there is a great clubman! A club legend! The King!” the Rahan Parish Club posted on Facebook.
